ANOTHER ASUP STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared its intention to initiate a nationwide industrial action, effective Monday, December 2, 2024. This drastic measure follows the Nigerian Government's inaction regarding the union's pressing demands, which were explicitly stated in a 15-day ultimatum issued on October 6, 2024.

Abubakar J. Abdullah, Chairman of ASUP's Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter, expressed the union's frustration with the government's lack of response to their concerns. Key among these concerns are:

1. The prompt release of the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment Intervention fund, aimed at addressing the infrastructural deficits in polytechnics.
2. The immediate implementation of new schemes, designed to enhance the welfare and working conditions of polytechnic staff.

ASUP's planned strike is aimed at compelling the government to take immediate action and address the lingering issues affecting polytechnics nationwide. The union is resolute in its determination to secure improved working conditions, better funding, and a more conducive learning environment for students.

By embarking on this nationwide strike, ASUP seeks to draw attention to the plight of polytechnics and the need for urgent government intervention. The union remains committed to negotiating with the government to find a lasting solution to the challenges facing polytechnics.
