Black Sunday in Aba: Many Feared Dead During Christ the King Celebration, Others Still Unconscious at Different Hospitals

While Catholic faithfuls across Nigeria were celebrating the Christ the King Solemnity in peace and joy , it was a different story at Aba Diocese, as many people were reportedly dead, and others were still unconscious in different hospitals in Aba, the commercial city of Abia State.

An eyewitness who spoke to Oko Poly Gist on condition of anonymity explained that the population of people at Christ the King Cathedral (CKC) was more than expected. He further added that the large population led to overcrowding at the venue, resulting in fainting and unconsciousness.

When Oko Poly Gist visited some hospitals in Aba, Abia State, it was gathered that in a particular family (name undisclosed), a woman and her nine-year-old daughter were lying dead at the hospital; her son was unconscious at the time of this report.

There was also a story of a newly married lady who was reported dead after falling at the Christ the King Cathedral.

In a chat with Oko Poly Gist, an eyewitness said the reason for the large population at Christ the King Cathedral could be attributed to the massive road construction embarked upon by the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. He further pointed out that the parishes that came to CKC were more than usual.

He appealed that the Bishop and other relevant authorities should carry out a proper investigation into this sad event.

As at the time of this publication, Oko Poly Gist reliably gathered that an investigation is ongoing to find out the cause of this sad development.
