A devastating fire outbreak occurred at Twin Tower Hostel, a students' lodge located at Old Amaokpala Road, home to students of Federal Polytechnic Oko. The fire, which was caused by a cooking gas explosion, ravaged two rooms, leaving them in ashes.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in one room and quickly spread to another, fueled by the gas explosion. However, thanks to the swift response of the caretakers and students in the vicinity, the fire was brought under control, preventing further damage.
The lodge members expressed concerns over the lack of fire extinguishers in the building, which could have helped prevent the fire from spreading. The three-story building, which houses over 100 rooms, was left vulnerable to the fire due to the absence of adequate fire safety measures.
Although there were no reported casualties, two students lost their entire properties and school documents in the fire. One of the affected students was seen crying, highlighting the emotional toll of the incident.
